Slaughter to Prevail released their first full-length album, Misery Sermon, in 2017, inspired by the hate and misery within themselves and around them. In May 2016, it was announced that Slaughter to Prevail would be joining bands such as Cannibal Corpse for Summer Slaughter 2016. They released an EP titled Chapters of Misery in 2015, signed to Sumerian Records in 2016, and re-released Chapters of Misery with a new song, "As the Vultures Circle," as their debut release under the label.

Simmons recruited them along with Russian drummer Anton Poddyachy to form what would become Slaughter to Prevail. Terrible and Dimitry Mamedov were both previously members of the Russian deathcore act We Are Obscurity, which disbanded after failing to find a record label. Prior to forming Slaughter to Prevail, British guitarist Jack Simmons was a member of London-based deathcore act Acrania, whereas Russian vocalist Alex Terrible gained a cult following online for his YouTube vocal cover videos. The band is currently signed to Sumerian Records and have toured through the US, Europe, Canada, and Asia. Their second album, Kostolom, released in 2021. The group debuted with an EP titled Chapters of Misery in 2015 and followed up two years later with a full-length album, Misery Sermon. “We don’t want something that’s stereotypical.Slaughter to Prevail is a Russian deathcore band originally from Yekaterinburg, and based in Orlando, Florida.

“We want something that causes an emotion - whether it’s good or bad, disappointment or excitement or whatever,” Simmons says. “The lyrics,” Simmons says, “are quite personal to anyone who listens, I think - of personal struggle, keeping a positive mental attitude and going through the shit to have a better life and achieve your goals.”Īs always, Slaughter to Prevail aim to provoke you, even as they empower you. But the frontman also stretches out across the record, adding clean choruses to anthems like “Baba Yaga” and “Your Only.”Īlex’s words - largely sung in Russian, with occasional bursts of English - are also more balanced than the bleak song titles may suggest. Tracks like “Made in Russia” and “Head on a Plate” pile-drive their detuned riffs straight into your skull, offering a platform for Alex at his most menacing. (Evgeny Novikov recorded his drums at a nearby studio in Moscow.) And they finally finished the material in late 2020, with everyone (Alex, Simmons, bassist Mikhail Petrov, guitarist Dmitry Mamedov) having tracked their respective parts at home. The songs evolved over several years, the first demos constructed shortly before the release of Misery Sermon. Other songs it was about groove or the chorus - ‘how can we make this melodic?’ The albums we love the most have those dynamics, and we want to use them to make each part hit harder.” “On some of the songs, we focused on wanting to keep it uptempo, building to a breakdown as the focal point. “We wanted to make each song for us stand out in a different way,” the guitarist says. The album expands on the dynamic extremes of their 2017 debut, Misery Sermon - pairing Alex’s dark, cathartic lyrics with Simmons’ pummeling riffs and tense, cinematic solos.

Kostolom is the epic second LP from the duo Alex Terrible and Jack Simmons’ band Slaughter to Prevail.
